The Province of Quebec joins the confederation July 1, 1867. Quebec is located in the central part of Canada`s provinces and are ranks 2nd in total land area. The province is ranks 2nd in population with almost 7.7 million residents in 2008 and that most of them are living in the southern half of the province and 3.635.000 are living in Greater Montreal metropolitan area. The Capital City is Quebec City. Largest Cities: Greater Montreal, Quebec City, Gatineau, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, and Trois-Rivieres. The official languages in Quebec are French and are the only Province in Canada who has that. Quebec has a very mix of ethnicity and race; Canadian 68,7%, French 29,6%, and 1,7% a mixed background. Quebec is bordered by the Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay to the north, Gulf of Saint Lawrence, Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick to the east, James Bay, Hudson Bay and Ontario to the west and USA with the states Maine , New Hampshire, Vermont and New York to the south. The largest industry branch in Quebec hydroelectricity, aerospace, information and technologies, biotechnology, pharmaceutical industry, chemicals, primary metals and knowledge economy. In the north Quebec are the mining after gold, iron ore and titanium and the forestry industry for timber, wood, lumber, plywood, wood pulp and paper products. On the agriculture side produce Quebec beef cattle, hogs, grains, poultry, milk maple syrup, fruit and dairy products. Quebec has a largest tourism industry with many visitors from U.S.A. and from Europe. Most of the tourist comes to the big cities, but many come for the outdoor activities hunting, camping, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking rock climbing, and river fishing.
