The Province of Ontario joins the confederation July 1, 1867. Ontario is located in the central part of Canada`s provinces and is ranks 4th in total land area. The province is ranks 1th in population with almost 12.8 million residents in 2008 and that is around 38,5% of whole Canada ‘s population that most of them are living in the southern half of the province and 2.500.000 are living in Toronto with metro. The Capital City is Toronto who also is the largest city in Canada. Largest Cities: Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, Hamilton, Brampton, London, Markham, Vaughan, Windsor and Kitchener. The official languages in Ontario are English. Ontario has a very mix of ethnicity and race; Canadian 29,7%, English 24,0%, Scottish 16,3% and 30,0% a mixed background. Ontario is bordered by the Hudson Bay to the north, Quebec to the east, Manitoba to the west and USA with the states Michigan, New York and Minnesota to the south. Ontario is Canada’s largest manufacturing province and standing for over 52% of Canada’s manufacturing shipment. Ontario produces cars for Ford Motor, General Motors, Toyota, and Honda. Hydroelectric energy is a large economy for Ontario from their big rivers including Niagara River who they sell it to their neighbor’s provinces Quebec and Michigan. Other industry output is iron, steel, electrical appliances, chemicals, information technology. In the north Ontario are the mining after nickels, gold, copper, zinc and uranium and the forestry industry for timber, wood, lumber, plywood, wood pulp and paper. On the agriculture side produce Ontario beef cattle, hogs, grains, poultry, tobacco, fruit, grape and dairy products. Ontario has the largest tourism industry of all the provinces in Canada. The Niagara Falls is the largest tourist attraction and the large casinos in Windsor, Rama and Niagara Falls. Outdoor tourism activities are hunting, camping, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking rock climbing, and river fishing.
