From the American Civil War until World War II, Mississippi, like many other southern states, suffered economic hardship. Today is still the farmer the largest incomes for Mississippi with cotton, rice, soybeans, poultry, cattle and dairy products. Food processing is of course a large industry because Mississippi is a very important and large farmer state in U.S. On the industry side is electrical machinery, apparel, furniture, lumber and wood products and transportation equipment the largest for the state.
