Marbella and Costa del Sol in general have a serious water problem, which we all know, with so many swimming pools and golf courses that have been built in Andalusian there is always water problem when the summer comes. In the summer doubles the population of Marbella and this year we are in luck because the reservoir at La Concepcion has plenty of water because of the heavy winter rains.
However it cannot be predicted whether there will be plenty of rain next winter so saving it is a priority. The Marbella desalination plant is doubling its output to 35,000 cubic meters per day to supplement that used from the reservoir. This means that water will not have to be taken from the La Conception reservoir, thereby saving water stocks. The plant at Rio Verde takes sea water and converts it into high quality drinking water .This supplements the 250,000 cubic meters we use every day.
Why there isn’t a much more rigorous campaign for saving water in Spain is a mystery. We don’t see or hear anything from the Government or the Town Hall, that we should save more water and just not letting taps run in the garden or in the houses, also why must the golf courses been SO green grass….why must all the Marbella luxury villas and Marbella apartments have so unbelievable green grass…
