Official portions of the trip will be picked up by the taxpayer, including transport on the Air Force version of a 757, which would cost around $146,000 (£91,900) for the round trip (not including four to five days’ ground time), and her mandatory Secret Service detail.At an estimated 70 agents – at the $273-a-day federal per diem for five days, that’s just over £60,000 for Secret Service room and board. Today Mrs Obama was seen strolling around the shops of Marbella’s old town, accompanied by burly Secret Service agents as hundreds of locals sought to catch a glimpse of her in the Costa del Sol resort.

Wearing black trousers, a black and white top and dark sunglasses, the 46-year-old walked through Marbella’s cobbled streets, nipping into a number of shops before having dinner in an Andalusian restaurant.

Mrs Obama arrived by plane at Malaga airport yesterday morning and was driven in a 14-car convoy to her hotel She told owner Ricardo Arranz she had come to ‘relax and unwind’.

The hotel is nestled in the hills overlooking Marbella, and at 6.30pm she and nine-year-old Sasha were driven to the historic centre for their shopping trip.

The holiday came just as the Obama administration faced an embarrassing diplomatic blunder and was forced to pull a warning about racism in Spain.

Staff at the US State Department removed the contentious advice to travellers, which included the phrase ‘racist prejudices could lead to the arrest of Afro-Americans who travel to Spain,’ from its website on Monday.

They had a reservation for 14 people at the Buenaventura Plaza restaurant, reportedly eating lobster with rice and oysters followed by a Spanish bread pudding called torrijas.

The party enjoyed red wine with the main course and a local sweet white wine with dessert before retiring to the hotel at 10pm.

Today Mrs Obama and her youngest daughter were due to visit the city of Granada, taking in the spectacular Alhambra Palace, the 16th century Granada Cathedral, and the pretty Albaicin neighbourhood, famous for its narrow winding streets and small squares.

After four days on the Costa del Sol they are expected to visit King Juan Charles and Queen Sofia at their summer palace on the island of Majorca.

Around 250 Spanish police officers and military personnel are protecting the Obamas during the trip, with another 68 Secret Service agents over from the US.

President Barack Obama, who turned 49 on Wednesday, is not expected to join them in Spain, and oldest daughter Malia, 12, is at a summer camp in the US.

Mr Obama celebrated his birthday with friends in his Chicago hometown, including TV host Oprah Winfrey, shortly after receiving well-wishing phonecalls from his wife and daughters.

As the presidential motorcade pulled closer to his house in Hyde Park, neighbours lined the street to welcome him home with waves and signs, including ‘Happy 49th Birthday President Barack Obama’ and ‘Happy Birthday Mr President.’

As well as Oprah, Mr Obama was joined by longtime friends Eric Whitaker, Marty Nesbitt and Valerie Jarrett, also a senior White House adviser and fellow Chicagoan.

 Mr Obama’s birthday – though a year short of the milestone 5-0 – also was viewed in this election year as a prime fundraising opportunity for Democrats, who fear losing their hold on both houses of Congress come November.

E-mails, house parties and other forms of outreach sought to capitalise on Obama’s big day.

Mrs Obama even joined the act, asking supporters to sign an e-mail birthday card being distributed by Organising for America, Obama’s political organisation. More than 1.2 million people had signed it as of Wednesday morning.

All in all it’s  sad day when the first lady cant come to Marbella and enjoy herself and least she put property Costa del Sol on the map.

Sir Sean Connery was facing a fresh probe into alleged financial irregularities today after a judge widened his investigation into the former 007.

Connery, 79, and second wife Micheline Roquebrune, 81, are already being investigated over the sale of a seaside Marbella property they owned in the millionaires’ playground of Marbella in southern Spain.

Today it emerged judge Ricardo Puyol also wants to quiz the pair over a separate multi-million pound land sale in Malaga six years ago.

Investigators believe a property firm linked to Connery and his wife may have failed to pay tax on the sale of development rights to land it owned on the outskirts of the city.

Local newspaper Sur  published a report by police and tax authorities alleging that the company omitted to pay £1.4m in corporation tax.

Puyol is said to have ordered a formal request for the former James Bond and his wife to appear before him to give evidence.

The request is expected to be made through a rogatory letter to authorities in the Bahamas where the couple have their official residence.

Sur said Spanish authorities were keen to quiz Connery as soon as possible because the alleged tax irregularities will become spent on July 25.

The Scot does not figure as a director of Montelagares, the Spanish firm reportedly identified in court papers as the company behind the July 2004 land sale linked to Connery.

But a lawyer at the Madrid law firm he has used is named as a former director.

The firm, Diaz-Bastien & Truan, is also under investigation over the sale of Connery’s beachside mansion in Marbella, Casa Malibu, and the subsequent reclassification of the land.

It is thought to have represented the former 007 in the sale of the house.

Police raided their offices in Marbella and Madrid in May in an operation codenamed Goldfinger after the 1964 Bond film, and seized 30,000 documents.

The extension of the Connery probe comes less than a month after the Scot was reportedly ordered to pay £2.75m to a court investigating the sale of Casa Malibu.

Connery, knighted in 2000, and his wife were given 30 days to pay the deposit as a bond against possible future compensation.

Judge Ricardo Puyol is investigating alleged irregularities in the reclassification of the land after the actor sold it for a reported £5.5 million in 1998. In 2004 and 2005 a four-storey block of 72 luxury flats was built on the land, apparently despite a 1986 planning regulation which said only five homes could be constructed on it.

Spain’s Court of Audit is said to have estimated the Spanish taxman was owed £2.25m over the sale of the house. Neither Connery or his wife have been arrested or charged with any offence.

The couple bought Casa Malibu after their wedding in 1975 and lived there until the late 90s.

They entertained stars including Richard Burton, Michael Caine, Omar Sharif and George Best in the magnificent whitewashed villa.

This week we have started to see glimpses of what the property for sale Spain market will be link in 2011 and overall its not good news for agents who rely on International clients.

This week we had a client who wanted to buy a villa in Nueva Andalucía with a budget around the one million Euro mark. This client had just lost out on one of the last fantastic deals and asked us to find the next best thing after several days we came up with the best deal by far in Nueva Andalucía a villa reduced from €1.5m to €860,000 but the problem for the client and for us is she missed out on better value and is now sitting tight waiting for a similar deal to come round again. Our view is the client will be extremely lucky to find a better deal than the one we proposed but this story in itself tells you some of the problem that the Spanish property market will face in 2011 in that now we are out of recession there are very few distressed vendors left who will hold out for a fair price and buyer who cant come to terms with the fact that they completely missed the boat.

As they say every cloud has a silver lining and this particular one comes in the shape of the clients who have not been to Spain before 2011 and more importantly the possible exchange rate getting well over €1.20 to the pound thus giving buyers up to 15%  savings.

Our message as always is make you buy in 2010 and if you see a great deal grab it and don’t be one of those If Only people come 2011

It’s quite an important question and it really depends where in Marbella you are looking to buy and the quality of accommodation you want to buy.

Our view is that if you like quality class and style and believe location is everything then you need to have at least €500,000 before you go shopping.

We are in real terms here talking about Marbella and the golden Mile not Elviria or Nueva Andalucia but the top location which is Marbella Town through to the Golden Mile.  This area is the London of the Spanish real estate market and as such the properties are priced accordingly.  For example a Luxurious apartment that is €600,000 in Monte Paraiso could be bought for €300,000 bur in real terms it is a secondary location.

However what you get with luxury Marbella property is exactly what you want in a top quality apartment in top quality location and most importantly a home you can actually live in with build size over 150M2.

If you’re the type of person that can afford Marbella then you should be buying top quality Marbella property and should be finding out about everything there is to know about world class developments like Monte Paraiso and Señorio de Marbella.

Finally Marbella Ayuntamiento gets to work when demolition work starts this week on an illegal development in the Golf Río Real area of Las Chapas, Marbella. The block in question consisted of 34 apartments built by Naviro Inmobiliaria on land designated as a green zone.

With the new PGOU plan for Marbella, this apartment block would not be legalized. What made this block one of the main candidates for demolition was that

unlike many of the other 18,000 properties with planning issues in Marbella, this development had not been sold nor occupied. This is also the case for the other development that is soon to be knocked down. However the real issue is whether they will ever get as far a demolishing developments where people actually own and live in properties.  Maybe this is just a peace offering to the Junta de Andalucia, only time will tell

Supposedly the development was supposed to have been torn down within 2 months of the order being given, which was in September, by the promoter. Obviously more than 2 months have passed since September, but the order was executed by Naviro, not the Ayuntamineto. The next development that appears to be marked for demolition is Linda Vista, located in San Pedro, a development of six small houses build by Prosavi which was also built on land designated green zone.

The good thing here is that the majority of the properties in Marbella will be legalized, especially those that have been sold to people who bought in good faith and were badly advised.  Time will tell if this is a real attempt to bring everything in line or just touching round the edges.

As most of you will know Sundream Estate over the last years has mainly helped English and Scandinavian speaking clients buy quality property here in Marbella and its surrounding areas and I believer they have been very happy with the results and service they have received from us.

However with our local knowledge we have decided to team up with Spanish Hot Properties to share our properties and expertise especially for there Russian clients.  I have been good friends with Nick Stuart the owner of Spanish Hot Properties for sometime and he was telling me about his plans to have his site in Russian so when Russian search недвижимость в Испании in Google.RU there site is found and he has Russian speaking property consultants on the ground and my Russian isn’t too hot so it seemed the natural progression to make a business arrangement with Nick and Spanish Hot Properties with will benefit us all at Sundream Estate.

Obviously not such a major factor but they have also looked at the keywords in Spanish and the most visited keyword in Spanish property searches is pisos Madrid with over 2.5 million a month and Pisos Malaga has over 236,000 twice as many as the number one English language search, property Spain & Spain property.  So we hope to be receiving good quality clients from the Spanish market as well.  It is also nice to have the seal of approval from Spanish Hot Properties.

In other news I think were all experiencing the lull before the storm and I believe once the UK election is decided we will be swept off our feet as we already have a pretty full diary for May.

I was today having lunch with Nick Stuart owner of Spanish Hot Properties and the lovely Susana Suspenda his PR lady amongst other things and they were telling me about there sister site Property Deals Spain a new site just concentrating on their customers who want to register and get help for our bargain property, Spanish bank repossessions and distressed sales. They were telling me about some of the product the have in Costa del Sol, Mallorca and Costa Blanca and some of the property deals they had were very interesting indeed.  I understood that they have exclusive access to some excellent Marbella property and we certainly will be working with them if it suits are customers needs.

Another point of discussion was the difference in clients from the different areas and Nick was telling me that enquiries in Mallorca are now on a par with the other two regions which is quite amazing considering the size of the Mallorca property market compared to that of Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca.  Susana also explained that because Mallorca is in reality the London of the Spanish property market it wasn’t a total surprise that people with money to spend have decided to buy in Mallorca even though they can’t get the same discounts buyers can get in Marbella for example.

It’s certainly a very interesting time for Spanish real estate and we are seeing an increase in enquiries for Marbella Luxury property.

Some real estates people didn’t think the Marbella property market prices ever going ending rising. Many real estates said to the clients – the property Marbella market prices are growing with 15-20% every year, so in 5-6 year has your property doubling in sales value. Even the real estates themselves believe in what they said. They rent more and bigger offices, employed more people, more luxuries cars; they competed with each other that have most and biggest road signs. Today has many of them gone bankrupt. Empty locals, road sign skeleton with no advertisements and high unemployment.

A property in Marbella is a good investment over long time if the buying price is correct, not those fantasy over prices some real estates was sold for in 2003 to 2007. We have many clients who we sold properties in Marbella under these years. We never took in property in Marbella to any over prices. Some days were I looking at 5-6 properties and only 1 or 2 did we take in for sale, the rest was stupid over prices. Today when the prices has going down with around 15% can we still sale them and the owner don’t lose any money. We only take in properties in good areas like Hacienda Playa, Bahia de Marbella, Elvira Hills, Hacienda Elviria, Cabopino, Los Monteros and many more similarly areas.

Marbella is again on the map as one of Spain most imported towns. Just a few weeks ago on the 29th October were the Grand Opening Celebration of Hard Rock Café Marbella. It is Spain’s fifth Hard Rock Cafe after Barcelona, Madrid, Mallorca and Gran Canaria. It is situated in the heart of Puerto Banus, on the corner of Plaza Antonio Banderas, opposite the El Corte Ingles department store and adjacent to the Marina Banus shopping centre. The new establishment is of around 1000sqm and has recently received a 2.5 million euro installation and decoration investment. There is space for around 300 people. As well it includes a bar, an open-air terrace and Rock Shop, and also features Hard Rock’s limited-edition merchandise. The new cafe is expected to create about 70 permanent jobs and up to 100 persons in summer and will definitely bring some more local people and tourists to the port of Marbella.

Marbella has been waited a long time for Hard Rock Café. Marbella have already most of the worlds famous and important restaurants, bars, shops and boutiques to offer tourists and the people who lives here or have a property Marbella apartments or villas as a holydays home.

There are always many people at the new Hard Rock Cafe, so be aware that there could be a small queue to get in. But they handle it quite well and give you a small pager which vibrates when it’s your turn. Nice idea, so you can go to the bar while waiting and don’t have to actually stay in the queue

The Opening Celebration on October 29th was celebrated by Javier Ojeda from the legendary Spanish band Danza Invisible, who performed an acoustic set with two other musicians and a second set with Free Soul Band, a truly funky band from nearby Malaga.
