marbella-hard-rock-cafe

Marbella is again on the map as one of Spain most imported towns. Just a few weeks ago on the 29th October were the Grand Opening Celebration of Hard Rock Café Marbella. It is Spain’s fifth Hard Rock Cafe after Barcelona, Madrid, Mallorca and Gran Canaria. It is situated in the heart of Puerto Banus, on the corner of Plaza Antonio Banderas, opposite the El Corte Ingles department store and adjacent to the Marina Banus shopping centre. The new establishment is of around 1000sqm and has recently received a 2.5 million euro installation and decoration investment. There is space for around 300 people. As well it includes a bar, an open-air terrace and Rock Shop, and also features Hard Rock’s limited-edition merchandise. The new cafe is expected to create about 70 permanent jobs and up to 100 persons in summer and will definitely bring some more local people and tourists to the port of Marbella.

Marbella has been waited a long time for Hard Rock Café. Marbella have already most of the worlds famous and important restaurants, bars, shops and boutiques to offer tourists and the people who lives here or have a property Marbella apartments or villas as a holydays home.

There are always many people at the new Hard Rock Cafe, so be aware that there could be a small queue to get in. But they handle it quite well and give you a small pager which vibrates when it’s your turn. Nice idea, so you can go to the bar while waiting and don’t have to actually stay in the queue

The Opening Celebration on October 29th was celebrated by Javier Ojeda from the legendary Spanish band Danza Invisible, who performed an acoustic set with two other musicians and a second set with Free Soul Band, a truly funky band from nearby Malaga.

The Friends of the Sextant donate a gift to Marbella

Associations, whose members are aficionados of all things to do with sailing, astronomy and science, the Friends of the Sextant, have fulfilled their long held dream, to donate a sundial to the town. The gift coincides with the International Year of Astronomy and takes the form of a boat and is homage to the voyages of discovery to Latin America. The gift, which is to be found in Avenida Las Naciones Unidas in Puerto Banús, was launched at the weekend with the help of the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, and a plaque explains how sailors calculated the hours while at sea.

The Re-opening of La Bajadilla harbour.

The maritime authority have authorized the re-opening of the La Bajadilla harbour after dredgers removed 58,500 cubic meters of sand that was blocking the mouth and preventing fishing and other boats from using the moorings. It has taken more than two months to provide the fishing vessels with a safe channel. Representatives of the fishermen expressed their satisfaction at the result, but hoped that the authorities would be better prepared should the port suffer the problem again. The final destination of the recovered sand is yet to be decided.

Marbella bootlegger operation.

The campaign started last year by the Town hall to clamp down on the sale and distribution of illegal music, film and game DVDs has reduced the number on sale by 62 per cent. The operation against the bootleggers, mainly of African and Oriental origins, brought together Local and National police, the Guardia Civil, shopkeepers and wholesalers and resulted in more than 73,000 illegal copies being seized over 12 months. The number of street vendors has also been reduced from over 80 to around 30 this year, compared to over 100 in neighboring coastal towns. The town is the first to collaborate with the Federation for the Protection of Intellectual Property to attack the problem of pirate copiers. The president, José Manuel Torné said that many street vendors, particularly the Senegalese, were controlled by mafia type gangs and suffered inhuman conditions.
