 Located in Mijas Costa you have The Mijas Hipodromo (racecourse), close to the shopping centre Parque Miramar with a drive distance to both Fuengirola and Calahonda, close to N-340 highway and only 15-20 minutes from Puerto Banus, Marbella and Malaga International airport. It is one of the most popular attractions by the locals & tourists on the Costa del Sol . The course has a very relaxed atmosphere and is made for an entertaining family day out.
The Hipodromo started to be constructed in 1998 and opened its doors to the public in the year 2000, residents and visitors to the Costa del Sol have been able to enjoy the extraordinary excitement and adrenalin rush of seeing their chosen horses vying for top slot at the Hipodromo Costa del Sol, at Mijas.
First trainer licence
The first non-Spanish trainer who received a licence here on the Costa del Sol was the Yorkshire man Peter Haley, has also open the way for the sport in Spain , closely followed by many others from all parts of the continent, with assuredly many more to follow. Claes Bjorling, Bengt Andersson, Ole Larsson from Scandinavia , Joey Brown, Les Eyre and Mick Lambert from the UK , among others, have all successfully followed to make this one of the best horseracing in Spain.
The course consists of two sand tracks (1700 & 1600 metres respectively) for racing horses, an athletics track, training & competition tracks, & paddocks. Spectators watch races from a 30,000m² direct view plaza with seating for 2000, though a new grandstand is soon to be added with seating for a further 3000.
Open time and Betting.
Night-time racing on Saturdays, from 10pm, takes place during June, July, August and September. From October to May, daytime racing takes place every other Sunday, starting at 11am and, from June to September, every Saturday, again starting at 11am.
Betting at the course is easy, with several options to choose from: You can of course simply bet on the winner of the race or you may pick a horse that finishes 1st or 2nd. Try a dual forecast by picking two horses that cross the finishing line or a triple forecast, paying the highest dividends if you predict the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placing.
More than house race.
The facilities at the racecourse are second to none, and not only on race days. The Hipodromo can also proudly present show jumping and dressage facilities, a top athletics track, bars, restaurants, children's entertainment, live concerts and much more. Recently the Hipodromo has been taken over by a consortium of forward thinking businessmen; the racecourse complex is rapidly heading towards being one of the best attractions on the Costa del Sol .

A huge building area.
The whole area around .Mijas hipodromo horse race is a gigantic building area today. More and less every big Spanish construction company is there. In the next five year they are going to constructs about 20.000 apartments, 1.000 townhouses and 1.000 luxury villas around the race course, many with view over the race and many with sea view.
