Playing Golf and Golf Courses at Costa de la Luz

Spain’s southwest coastline, the Costa de la Luz, is fast becoming an increasingly popular destination, both Spanish and from whole of Europe has visitors discover what the area has to offer, compared to the far more robust Costa del Sol. Certainly, golf and the Costa de la Luz are growing hand in hand, with more and choicer available where people can relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity.

Airlines and Highway.

The Costa de la Luz is very accessible there days, and this is one of the reasons why the popularity of golf is increasing. Access from the east, from Malaga International airport and Gibraltar airports, has improved considerably with the new motorways now being completed. Access from the west by Sevilla and Madrid or by air into Jerez is constantly becoming easier and easier and the airport now attracts visitors from all over Europe.

Although only serviced by one British Isles-based airline at present, Ryanair flying from Stansted, the airport handles up to eighteen other different airlines, including several flights from Germany and Austria.

Golf Courses in Cadiz.

There are some splendid courses to enjoy, and the first on the coastline is the majestic Montenmedio, which is a 20-minutes drive from Tarifa. If you have not played here, then it is a must, as it is one of Spain’s undiscovered secrets. The course is one of the finest in Spain and in an area natural beauty that also accommodates the famous equestrian centre.

Another 30 minutes further along is Nova Sancti Petri at Chiclana, which was the first golf course in Spain designed by Seve Ballesteros. Situated just at the beach. Is this lovely 54 holes championship golf course, with a magnificent view of the Atlantic. This is an area that is seeing more and more development and is a very popular holiday destination, where you can stay at the many hotels, including the San Valentine Sancti Petri Hotel, a magnetic 4-star beachfront hotel.

Further down the road, in the Cadiz area, there are Golf el Puerto at Puerto de Santa Maria and Sanlucar Club de Campo Golf. When you visit this region, you can also enjoy the beautiful seafood the port has to offer.

In the Rota/Chipona area there is Costa Ballena, which is a superb 27-hole complex that hugs the Atlantic coastline, and the area is fast becoming popular with holidaymakers; there is a choice of hotels, one of them are the very comfortable, 4-star Costa Ballena Hotel.

New Golf Courses Inland.

There are couple of other golf courses inland that are worth a mention, the first one is Benalup, situated off the motorway from Los Barrios. A relatively new course, it was constructed with the idea of also accommodating property development and is a very pleasant course to play, attracting several visitors.

At Jerez, there is the Montecastillo Resort, which is a luxury 5-star Spa hotel, and championship golf course complex that up until recently staged the Volvo master. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, he considers this one of his best, which gives an idea of the quality. Very popular with visitors from all over the world, many are now purchasing the properties that are being constructed on and around the course.

All there courses are within 45 minutes of each other, and the Costa de la Luz also offers so much more when you are having that well-earned rest from golf.

The history Cadiz area.

The province of Cadiz is steeped in history, with the capital itself thought to be the oldest city in Europe. Its position at the entrance of the Mediterranean has made it an important port for seafarers and a main departure point over the centuries for the fleets leaving for the Americas, including Christopher Columbus in his day.

Golf and Sherry.

The region has so much to offer you, many interesting thing to see and doing. One thing you can’t miss is to tasting the finest Sherries ever produced from the likes of GonzalezByass, Domecq, Sandeman and John Harvey, to name but a few. There is a big connection with Scottish whisky distillers, where there is a demand for the sherry casks in which to mature Scotland’s golden liquid.

Throughout the province there is something for everyone to enjoy, the fantastic golf courses, sandy beaches, white villages, pedigree horses. The great Andalucian river Guadalquivir way to Atlantic, who ending up with The Natural Park Sierra de Grazalema with the birdlife, the fauna, and the local eagles. Europe’s finest and world famous Tarifa windsurfing paradise. A fantastic underwater life and much, much more.

Costa de la Luz certainly has a lot to offer the golfer, the holiday-maker and the property purchaser, as many are now finding out.
